Sephora by OPI Shiny Dancer

Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

.

Oh thank you Elton John for recording Tiny Dancer. It’s been one of my favorite songs for years, but I think I love it a little bit more now for being the inspiration for the lovely lacquer I have for you today:

Shiny Dancer from Sephora by OPI Spring 2011 Urban Ballerina Collection

When I first saw this collection, I wasn’t totally impressed by it because it has a lot of pinks-which are not always my favorite-and the colors didn’t seem all that original to me. But when I saw the name of this baby, I had to have it!

Yes, I admit it: I bought a nail polish for its name alone. I’d like to think I’m not the only one that’s ever done that 🙂

I’m pretty sure I would’ve bought it even if I hated the color of it, but I lucked out because I kind of  love it.

It’s a silvery, charcoal-grey loaded with  lovely little flecks of glitter that give it an awesome shimmery finish. I do have a couple of colors in my stash that remind me of it, but no dupes. That makes this a winner in my book.

Application on the first coat had me worried because it was thin and a little watery. However, it built up very nicely with the 2nd coat. In the pics below I added a 3rd coat for depth, but you could definitely get away with two. Check it out:

.

If you love greys and/or shimmer, I’d say you definitely need to snag this nail polish.

If you do get it, listen to Tiny Dancer while you paint your nails to complete the effect 😉 It’s totally cheesey, but in my mind I changed the words “tiny dancer in my hand” to “shiny dancer on my hand”.  Love it.

Have any of you ever bought a polish for the name alone?

  1. It looks waaaay better in real life than it does on the promo pics. I like it.

  2. I had the same reaction to that collection! Not great, but I had a long giggle at the name for this particular polish.
Whyyyy do they have to be so expensive? I want to be able to buy this one just for the name alone (though it is a pretty wicked shade), but I can’t justify spending $12 (and then ridiculous tax on top of it) for an amusing/awesome name. Boourns.

    • RBL Diddy Mow’s name was definitely that main reason I bought it. I was ordering Dead Calm during an RBL sale, and felt like I needed to get another polish to make the shipping worth it. It was a somewhat random choice, but like Shiny Dancer, I was more than pleasantly surprised – it’s one of my all-time favorites!

      • Don’t you love the way that happens?! I’ve done it with a few other nail polishes, like Misa Paint My Nails @Work. We’re victims of the polish industry’s cute name ploy, haha.

    • Omg, $12 is way too much. Boo that. I didn’t like paying $9.50 for it but I made a special exception cuz I love the name.
