Lacquistry Sprouts Through Snow

Happy Saturday!

I hope you’ve all had a good start to your weekends. I actually get to have the whole weekend of for the first time in a while, so I’m super excited about that.

Today I have a lovely polish from Lacquistry called Sprouts Through Snow.

If you’re not familiar with Lacquistry, it’s a brand of hand-mixed nail polish that is sold by its creator, Jenna, on Etsy. She has some beautiful creations and I’m super excited that I was able to get my hands on a couple of them.

Sprouts Through Snow is a base of pearlized white glitter and shimmer, interspersed with gorgeous, emerald-green hex glitter. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it. Ever since I got Lynnderella’s Snow Angel, I’ve been loving me some shimmery, white glitter.

The formula is pretty smooth for this type of glitter, but I would recommend letting it dry between coats if you’re going to do more than one. In the pics below I layered one generous coat of it over 2 coats of Orly Au Champagne. Peep it:

I’m really in love with the look of this. I think the green glitter gives it something special and makes it unique. I’m so glad I snagged a bottle.

Lacquistry’s Etsy shop is closed for a few days right now, but when everything’s back in stock, I encourage you to check it out. I got Sprouts through Snow for $7.50 for a full size bottle. Pretty good deal.

Anyway, what do you think of this lovely? Is it your thing, or do you prefer your glitter polish to be more sparkly and in your face?

OPI Merry Midnight vs Orly Fowl Play (Plus A Giveaway!)

 Happy Saturday Peeps!

Sorry I’m getting this post up so late, but the day got away from me and then WordPress was being a pain in the butt and not letting me upload and edit my pics.

Anyway, today I have a comparison between two amazing beauties: OPI Merry Midnight and Orly Fowl Play.

First let me say that I can’t believe I FINALLY got my hands on Merry Midnight. It’s been one of my biggest lemmings for what seems like forever. When Orly came out with Fowl Play, I was happy to have it as a dupe for Merry Midnight, but I knew I wouldn’t be satisfied until I had the original in my possession.

So first here is Merry Midnight, which is an awesome, purple jelly base full of lovely glitter and amazing flakies. In the pic below I used 4 coats…more on that later:

Gorgeous right? Well now let’s look at Fowl Play, which is an awesome, purple jelly base full of lovely glitter and amazing flakies…wait, didn’t I say that already? 😉 In the pic below I used 2 coats:

.

Mmm, more gorgeousness! Now let’s see these lovelies side-by-side shall we?:

.

MM is on my middle and pinky fingers and FP is on my index and ring.

.

So is it safe to call these two dupes? I’d say so. Fowl Play may be a tad bit darker, but the difference is almost imperceptible. The main thing that distinguishes the two is the formula and application. I hate to say it, but Fowl Play totally has Merry Midnight beat. It goes on smooth and is opaque in 2 coats. I love it.

Merry Midnight, on the other hand, is pretty thin and took 4 coats to build up. It was giving me a little trouble with cuticle drag too. I think it would work best layered, for maximum color payoff with minimal effort. But I still lovelovelove it.

Orly Happy Go Lucky

Happy Pink Wednesday Loves!

One day closer to Friday! Woot woot!

I’m so behind on swatching at the moment, so I know I’m late on this, but today I have Orly’s Happy Go Lucky Collection.

I really like the idea of this collection because it’s  got some bright, fun shades for those of us still holding on to our summery colors when all the fall collections are already rolling out.

Anyway, let’s get down to the goods. In all of the pics below I used 2 coats, no topcoat. And since it’s Pink Wednesday, let’s start with the beautiful pink from the collection…

Flirty is a gorgeous, bright pink shimmer. I can’t believe how much I loved this one on! The shimmer is just so pretty, plus it’s highly pigmented and the application was really great.

.

.

Fresh is another fave. It’s an amazing green creme that reminds me of the color of fresh-cut grass. Love it. This one I actually had to use 3 coats for because it was a little thin, but the color payoff is totally worth it.

.

.

Frolic is a lovely magenta-ish  creme (the press release says it’s purple, but I think it has enough pink to it that it can be called magenta). This baby was almost a one coat wonder and it applied like buttah.

.

.

And last, but definitely not least, is Frisky. Ahh! I love this color sososo much! This type of color is right up my alley. Whenever I see any polish in this color family I have to get my hands on it no matter how many other ones I may have like it. My one and only complaint is that the formula on this was a bit runny. However, I’m so in love with it that I can completely overlook that. This lovely is definitely my favorite of the collection.

.

.

.

So what do you guys think of this collection? Do you have a favorite?

I feel like Orly did a bang up job with this one. All of the colors are gorgeous and the collection feels really cohesive. In fact, they go so well together that I’m planning on doing a splatter mani with them, so look for that to come in the near future 🙂

Anyhow, I hope everyone has a happy hump day, and as usual don’t forget to hop on over to http://onwednesdayswewearpink.com to check out all the pretty pink tips today! You can also follow @PinkWednesday on twitter 🙂

Orly Pinup

Happy Saturday Everyone!

I hope everyone’s weekend is off to a good start!

The Saurdays that I don’t have to work are always soooo lovely to me, plus my brother is coming to visit today so I’m excited 🙂

First off, tomorrow is the last day to enter my Easter Giveaway. So make sure you get your entry in so you don’t miss out on a chance to win a set of Kleancolor holos and China Glaze Crackles 🙂

Anyway, today I have Orly’s new Summer 2011 Collection- Pinup

There are 4 colors in the set (2 glitters and 2 cremes), and as summer colors are wont to be, they are very bright and lovely.

Let’s get to the pics…

First up is Coquette Cutie. This one is a bright, coral creme. I like the color, but the formula was a little thick on it. It wasn’t to the point that it was terribly hard to work with, but I think a little bit of thinner would do it some good. Other than that, it covered perfectly in 2 coats.

Orly Precious

Hey There Lovelies 🙂
.
So I know I’m totally late to the party, but today I have swatches of Orly’s Precious Collection for Spring.
.
I got behind on swatching between work and being sick and whatever else, so I forgot to post these.
I think these were officially out in stores in March, but I saw them at my Sally’s towards the end of February.
.
Anyway, let’s get to the pics. I don’t have too many Orly polishes, so I didn’t really know what to expect from these, but I was pretty satisfied. All of them covered pretty evenly with only 2 coats. Check ’em out:
.
First up is my absolute favorite of the whole collection: Royal Velvet.
This color is just gorgeous in so many ways. A lot of people have been gushing about this color, and it’s definitely with good reason. It’s a deep purple/blue duochrome packed with shimmer. Lovelovelove it!

Ulta Mini-Haul

Happy Sunday!

So, yesterday I decided to go on a mini-hunt for O.P.I.’s Katy Perry Collection. Actually, it was mostly for Black Shatter, but I figured if I found the whole collection then that would be a plus. I decided to check out Ulta because I’d heard rumors that they might have it. Continue reading
